You can donate to the work of the Greens. Note that Canada Bay Greens and Greens NSW don’t accept corporate donations. Big business sponsors the major parties who nationally have received over $200m of corporate donations over the past decade and still support policies like continued coal mining and gas fracking (with expanded exports of coal and gas) and generation of electricity with fossil fuels, destruction of the environment and more. That’s why we need the Greens in the balance of power.
Note that to make a donation you need to be listed on the electoral roll, and not be a prohibited donor.
Political donations legislation in NSW is the strongest in the country because of campaigning by the Greens in Parliament and in the community. The Greens NSW take the integrity of political donations so seriously that we have our own internal policy which requires us to not accept donations above $6,600 from an eligible donor in any financial year. This figure is indexed annually in line with the Consumer Price Index. We also don’t accept any donations at all in cash, even small donations.
The first $1,500 of membership fees and/or donations to a political party from individuals in a financial year are tax deductible. Parties must disclose donations of $1000 or more to the Electoral Commission; they will also be listed on the Greens NSW website.
