Initial results on council election 2024

Updated 18th September 2024.

Thanks to all of our great members and volunteers for a huge effort on this campaign, especially in the last few days. This has probably been our best campaign ever in several ways, as shown by our best council results ever.

Here are some details on the incomplete results on the election. Nothing here is final! I expect it will take several more days before the NSW Election Commission finalises the results.

Councillor vote

These figures appear to show that the Liberals have won four councillor seats, Labor three and the Greens one.

On the figures above, it appears that we have increased our total councillor vote to 15.7% with a swing to the Greens of about 5.9%, a 60% increase on the Greens 2021 councillor vote, which we are very happy about.

Mayoral vote

On these early figures, Andrew Ferguson and Michael Megna appear to be “neck and neck” to become Mayor. A key question is exactly how many Greens voters have given a second preference for Labor. This would often be over 80% of Greens voters, but can vary.

The good news for the Greens is that we have increased our mayoral vote to 15.2% with a swing of 7.3%. That’s an increase of 90%. Exciting!

The swing figures are skewed by the fact that – unlike previous occasions for many years, no independent is running for mayor.

So thanks again to everybody who has put in a huge effort. Special thanks to Pauline Tyrrell for her massive organisational work on so many things all the way through the campaign.

More still to come…
