Thanks to all of our great members and volunteers for a huge effort on this campaign, especially in the last few days. This has probably been our best campaign ever in several ways, as shown by our best council results ever.
Here are some details on the final results on the election, declared on 1 October 2024.

These figures show that the Liberals won four councillor seats, Labor three and the Greens one.
The Greens have increased our total councillor vote to 16.4% with a swing to the Greens of about 6.6%, a 67% increase on the Greens 2021 councillor vote, which we are very happy about.
Mayoral vote
Candidate – Party | Vote | Vote % | 2021% | Swing% | % increase |
Charles Jago – Green | 7,558 | 15.58% | 7.9% | 7.3% | 92% |
Michael Megna – Liberal | 22,437 | 46.08% | 22.3% | 24.2%
Andrew Ferguson – Labor | 18,664 | 38.33% | 27.8% | 10.5%
Totals | 48,689 |
Congratulations to Michael Megna, who was elected Mayor. A key factor was the lower number than normal of Greens voters who gave their second preference to Labor.
I’m happy to say that the election was conducted in a civil manner, with a good atmosphere.
The good news for the Greens is that we have increased our mayoral vote to 15.58% with a swing of nearly 7.7%. That’s an increase of over 95%. Exciting!
The swing figures for all parties are skewed by the fact that – unlike previous occasions for many years – no independent is running for mayor.
So thanks again to everybody who has put in a huge effort. Special thanks to Pauline Tyrrell for her massive organisational work on so many things all the way through the campaign.
