Council elections – the issues

  • Liveable development: The Greens support human scale development supported by infrastructure and services. We oppose poor quality development with big developers’ profits above community needs. See information on the NSW government’s new plans for greater density around Canada Bay and the Greens response to it. Also see more below.
  • Environmentally sustainable policies: With climate change happening now, the council must further reduce emissions and mitigate catastrophic climate change by maintaining tree canopy and open space in planning decisions. The Greens are leading the push in local government for substantially more effective policies to reduce carbon emissions and prepare councils to prevent and mitigate catastrophic climate change with better policies in planning, development and council operations. Charles Jago has initiated council policies to reduce emissions, increase renewables, and treat climate change as an emergency.
  • Increase affordable housing: Additional permanent social and affordable housing is now critical in Canada Bay LGA.
  • A new local public high school: Canada Bay LGA needs a new local public high school now. With probably more than 25,000 new residents expected in the next ten years, the new high school in Wentworth Point and the upgrade to Concord High won’t be enough.
  • Upgrade transport infrastructure: The over-capacity T9 Northern train line needs upgrading. We also still need the previously promised Rapid Transit along Parramatta Road to support the new high-rise and medium-rise coming there. See more…
