Traffic chaos in North Strathfield

This revised video shows the problems with traffic in George Street North Strathfield. As you may know, all motor vehicle traffic into North Strathfield and Concord West north of Pomeroy Street (on the western side of the railway) can only enter or leave through the intersection of Pomeroy and George Streets.

We are reissuing this traffic video with slight improvements on the previous version; it now also includes subtitles.

We know that Canada Bay Council intends to make significant improvements to the intersection of Pomeroy and George Streets. This will include a new left turn slip lane from George Street to Pomeroy Street and an improvement to the traffic lights. This project will help reduce some of the problems at the intersection, but – according to the residents I have talked with about this – won’t provide anything close to a complete solution.

The key point is that the NSW government’s major rezoning changes will lead to a large population increase, which will put many more cars onto local roads, driving even greater traffic problems.

The New South Wales Government is expected to fund the intersection upgrade, although at this stage the timing is not clear.
