Nurse to patient ratios in hospitals

Mavi, Charles and Stephen in front of Concord Hospital

Yesterday I met with senior nurses Alison, Stephen and Mavi from Concord Hospital, where I learned about the difficulties nurses and midwives face because they are continually understaffed. I support nurse to patient ratios because they provide better patient care, they protect nurses and midwives from burnout and they ensure better mentoring of younger nurses and midwives. This is good public policy which has been successful in other states including Victoria, Queensland and ACT which have invested in their own staff and reaped the benefit. Nursing ratios save lives.

Support for nurse to patient ratios is also Greens NSW policy, supported by all of our candidates in the 2023 NSW election.
